Writes exhibit texts and edits draft text prepared by subject matter experts, ensuring that products professionally communicate park information in an accurate, simple, and compelling manner. Synthesizes and presents complex information in a palatable format for park visitors. Ensures that written products adhere to appropriate standards, including the APA Publication Manual and the National Park Service Harper's Ferry Style Guide. Collaborates in the development of an intellectual concept for each exhibit medium that effectively communicates interpretive themes to park visitors. Prepares summarized proposals for exhibit projects. Coordinates the selection of graphics, art work, photographs, and tangible objects used in exhibits.
Area Information: Page, Arizona has a population of approximately 8000 year-round residents and is located on the Arizona-Utah border. The nearest larger community is Flagstaff, 135 miles south of Page. Wahweap Sub-District is located seven miles from Page. Page looks out on beautiful Lake Powell, which offers boating, associated water sports recreation, and fishing. The surrounding land of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers beautiful red rock country for hiking and backcountry recreational activity. Page is centrally located to many other National Parks, including Grand Canyon NP, Zion NP, Bryce NP, Arches NP, and Canyonlands NP. Page offers normal community amenities such as shopping, medical, and dental facilities, public library, K-12 schools and college courses available through the local Coconino Community College. The area enjoys typical high desert climate with temperatures ranging from 100+ during the summer, to mid-teens in the winter with low humidity and sunshine most days of the year. Elevation in Page is 4300 feet above sea level.

Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet time-in-grade requirements (must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent in the Federal service).
You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1-2 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess at least one or all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: technical writing and/or editing for an organization, or newspaper where there is little supervision. You must include hours per week worked.
-OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a master's or equivalent graduate degree, OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, OR LL.B or J.D. from an accredited college or university. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work of the position to be filled. Education must be in a related field such as journalism. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, 6 months of specialized experience (50% of the experience) and 1 year of related graduate study (50% of the education requirement) would qualify an applicant for this position.The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Education

Additional information
Physical Demands: The work is generally performed at a computer terminal, which can result in eye strain, neck strain and related physical stresses; in addition, the employee is often required to work extended hours under pressure and meet tight, sometimes conflicting deadlines. Trips to the field may involve walking, hiking and climbing.
Working Conditions: The work is normally performed in an office setting. However, site visits in the park will be required as well as travel to partner meetings.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
