Some of the Museum Technician Standard Duties include but are not limited to:
Identify, independently sort, and classify objects that are similar to previously identified objects. Catalogs museum objects and enters cataloging data into the designated NPS catalog program.
Perform routine cleaning, stabilization, or preservation of artifacts whose treatment does not require a high degree of specialization.
Ensure that all loan agreements, renewal forms, insurance certificates, shipping papers, and related documentation are completed and properly signed.
Monitor the environment of the collection storage and exhibit areas by keeping records on temperature, relative humidity, and pest infestation.
Give specialized tours or talks dealing with the museum collection, museum storage, and exhibits.
Perform a variety of clerical operations in support of the museum.
Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park protects some of the most unique geological, biological, and cherished cultural landscapes in the world. Extending from sea level to 13,680 feet, the park encompasses the summits of two of the world's most active volcanoes - Kilauea and Mauna Loa - and is a designated International Biosphere Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
You will be required to complete a one-year trial period.
You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

All qualifications must be met by 11:59 EST or when the 'applicant cut-off' is reached (which may be sooner than 09/30/2026).
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Experience related to the operation or management of a museum or similar collection of valuable objects. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material, or other experience related to the position to be filled. Most positions require a particular subject-matter specialization, e.g., aeronautics, anthropology, art, geology, history, natural science, technology, biology, or zoology. Specialized experience may also include processing incoming and outgoing loans, independently utilizing archives and museum collections to provide answers to research requests from the public and staff and overseeing the work of interns and volunteers in storage areas and in cataloging the museum collection. . You must include hours per week worked.
-OR- EDUCATION: One full academic year of related graduate level education leading to a master's degree. Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above which total at least one year. For example, 6 months of specialized experience (50% of the specialized experience listed above) and one-half year of graduate level education in coursework related to the field (9 semester hours or 14 quarter hours equaling 50% of the education listed above) would qualify an applicant for this position. PLEASE NOTE: If you are qualifying for the position based on your education, you must submit a copy of your transcripts.
