  • Reviews current Agency Reasonable Accommodations (RA) policies and procedures, and ensures compliance with Federal Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and applicable laws and statutes.
  • Provides technical advice and guidance to management, employees, applicants, human resources officials and advocacy groups on issues impacting individuals with disabilities.
  • Reviews supporting documentation to identify effective accommodation options.
  • Serves as an instructor delivering training on EEO laws, anti-harassment requirements, reasonable accommodation procedures, and related compliance topics.
  • Provides guidance to supervisors, managers, and employees regarding EEO laws, procedures, and responsibilities.

  • You must be a current Career or Career Conditional GPO employee to apply.
  • Selectee may be required to pass preemployment requirements prior to appointment.
  • Selectee must undergo a background investigation for Suitability.
  • Selectee may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
  • TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Applicants must have served 1 year at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service to qualify.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Equal Employment Specialist, PG-0260-12, you must meet the following requirements:

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the PG-11 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as experience that includes:
1) Providing guidance to supervisors, managers, and employees regarding Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws, procedures, and responsibilities; AND
2) Communicating with various customers to gather necessary information ensuring the processing requests of reasonable accommodation and accessibility; AND
3) Supporting agency awareness of EEO program requirements and/or procedures through advisory services including informational programs, educational seminars, training sessions or individual consultations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (08/24/2026) to be considered.

Education

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

Work Life Balance:
The GPO offers Transit subsidy for commuters using public transportation (Metro Bus/Rail, MARC, VRE, etc.).

Background Investigation for a Suitability:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a background investigation for Suitability. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background check for Suitability. This review could include fingerprints and credit checks, as well as a full field FBI background investigation and tax and bar checks for attorney applicants. The background investigation covers a period of seven to ten years depending on the nature of the position; this process may take 6 weeks or longer. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to pass the background investigation.
