Duties

Help

The primary duties and responsibilities as the Financial Management Specialist include but are not limited to:

  • Providing services that support business processes for effective control over program operations. Provides analyses, projections, and interpretations to maintain maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Responsible for independently conducting transactions for preparation, submission, and monitoring of financial management processes and oversight. Performs financial transactions associated with Departmental activities and determine the base requirement for updated financial information.
  • Prepares recommendations from a variety of sources, identifying problem areas as necessary. Provides timely financial-related advice required to support management in making effective decisions and proper program planning. The incumbent creates and provides briefing reports to support management officials in managing their line of business operations in a timely manner according to a pre-established schedule.

For GS-13: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-12 in the Federal Service.

Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.

Qualifying specialized experience for the Financial Management Specialist includes:
1. Utilizing federal financial management principles, accounting standards, to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
2. Analyzing and resolving complex financial management issues by evaluating accounting data, and developing strategic recommendations to improve financial operations, internal controls, and organizational performance.
3. Providing expert technical guidance and recommendations to senior leadership on accounting procedures, audit readiness, and process improvements, ensuring stewardship of public funds.

Education

At this grade level there is no education substitute for specialized experience.

This position is inside the bargaining unit. If the duty location is within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the position will be included in the Local 12, AFGE bargaining unit.
