Serving as a Accounting Technician GS-0525-6/7/8/9 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is located in the Chief Financial Officer Directorate.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Accounting Technician responsible for providing accounting and travel services. The position independently administers accounts payable, accounts receivable, and travel operations for various funds and appropriations; prepares internal and
external reports reflecting financial status; provides technical advice and guidance to stakeholders; and utilizes multiple financial and travel management systems.

Typical duties include:

  • Administering the accounting program and providing technical advice and accounting services regarding travel, accounts payable, and accounts receivable issues
  • Serving as a technical authority, explaining and interpreting Federal laws, Principles of Federal Appropriation Law, directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Providing professional accounting advice and assistance, including monthly analysis and reconciliation of open subsidiary ledgers for all appropriations and funds.
  • Preparing internal and external reports reflecting financial status.

Specialized Experience:
You qualify for the GS-06 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:

  • Receiving, verifying, auditing and/or processing field collections;
  • Verifying receivables;
  • Reimbursing employee's expenses in accordance with applicable regulations
You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess the following: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in Federal service, performing duties such as:
  • Examining and verifying accounting data for invoice payment transactions; AND
  • Preparing or completing the coding of all authorized payment documents for services ensuring accordance with regulations; AND
  • Ensuring transactions are properly processed and total activity agrees with predetermined control totals
You qualify at the GS-08 grade level if you possess the following: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in Federal service, performing duties such as:
  • Auditing payment vouchers for accuracy and completeness, ensuring compliance with regulations; AND
  • Responding to a wide variety of questions from a large and diverse customer base; AND
  • Ensuring travel transactions, payments and collections are processed in a timely manner
You qualify at the GS-09 grade level if you possess one of the following: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in Federal service, that demonstrates the ability to
  • Providing accounting advice and assistance; AND
  • Providing advice and assistance on accounts payable; AND
  • Handling correspondence with vendors, offices, and other federal agencies regarding electronic fund transmittals, disputed amounts, or deviations from procurement instruments or travel documents; AND
  • Participating in special projects requiring extensive knowledge and experience in accounting and travel systems

Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement.

Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of our mission, FLETC requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation for Secret as a condition of placement in this Non-Critical Sensitive, Moderate Risk position. This review may include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs.

Physical Demands: the work involves some physical effort, such as standing, walking, bending, etc. Much time is spent on the computer.

Work Environment: The work is performed in a normal office setting (open landscape). Normal safety precautions are required.
