Duties

Help

Responsible for control of powerplants, switchyards, and water release systems to meet both the power and water requirements. Meets these requirements by performing remote operations or by directing Powerplant Operators in the operations necessary to start, stop, or condense generators to meet the generation and spinning reserve requirements of the power system.

Responsible for the proper loading of generators, transformers, transmission lines and buses; diagnoses troubles from information obtained from various data acquisition instruments under their own observation and from other stations and initiates corrective measures.

During plant or system emergencies, works in conjunction with supervisors, and/or the System Dispatchers to restore generation or system facilities to service.

Monitors and utilizes power and water data to meet generation and water scheduling requirements and to prepare operating reports in an error free manner for all project facilities.

Maintains a record of all applicable switching and clearances that effect operations. Required to direct switching and tagging procedures and maintains all applicable documentation pertaining to that function.

Directs Powerplant Operators, Apprentices, and others assigned for normal duties, training and/or orientation. Assumes an active role in developing, revising, and updating Standard Operating Procedures, Operation Manuals, Operating Guidelines, and prints for all new and/or modified existing equipment.

You must maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times as the position requires operation of government vehicles on government and public roads. Failure to maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times will result in removal from the position.
You will be required to obtain a successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician certifying your ability to perform the duties of this position. A physical exam may not be required if a comparable agency approved examination was performed within the last 12 months. The cost of the exam will be reimbursed by the agency.
Individuals selected may be subject to working 12 hour rotating shifts to include swing shift, graveyard shift, holidays, and weekends.

Qualifications

This position requires knowledge and understanding to operate the various facility systems to meet generation, voltage, and water system operating criteria. This knowledge is demonstrated by having successfully performed the duties of a Control Center Operator OR as a Control Center Operator in training status at a large hydroelectric facility.
