  • Probationary Period - All newly appointed employees to the competitive (or excepted) service are subject to a probationary (or trial) period. During this time, your performance, conduct, and suitability for continued employment will be evaluated. You will not automatically convert to permanent status at the end of the probationary (or trial) period. Your supervisor must affirmatively determine that continued employment is in the best interest of the Federal service. If no certification is made before the probationary (or trial) period ends, your appointment will be terminated. Key Eligibility Requirements:
  • U.S Citizenship - Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Selective Service Registration - Males born after December 31, 1959 are required to be registered with the Selective Service System or prove they are exempt from having to do so.
  • Personal Identity Verification (PIV) - Must provide 2 forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. These documents must be unexpired original or certified copies.

Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. Experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or through Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

IRS PATHWAYS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • MINIMUM AGE: Minimum age for participants in the Pathways Internship program is 16 years of age.
  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: An individual who is enrolled at least a half-time basis in an accredited high school, job corps, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
  • GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA): Students must maintain a minimum of a GPA of 2.0 each term in order to be eligible to participate in the program.

PATHWAYS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: The IRS Pathways Internship Program provides Federal employment opportunities to students who are enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, as degree seeking students taking at least a half-time academic, technical, or vocational course load in an accredited, technical, vocational, 2 or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school (including qualifying career or technical education programs such as registered apprenticeship programs, Job Corps, Climate Corps, AmeriCorps, and Peace Corps) the opportunity to work and explore new careers while in school. This program provides experience that is directly related to your educational program and career goals. If selected, employees are required to maintain a schedule that includes attendance at an accredited school combined with career related work in the agency. The work experience with the agency MUST be related to your academic/career goals. If selected, employees are required to maintain a schedule that includes attendance at an accredited school combined with career related work in the agency. The work experience with the agency MUST be related to your academic/career goals. If selected, you will be placed in a student trainee position, and upon successfully completing a minimum of 480 hours of work experience acquired through the program and successful completion of your course of academic study, you may be non-competitively converted to a term, career or career-conditional appointment. Selectees must remain enrolled in school and maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher to remain in the program. Applicants are acknowledging that they understand these requirements with the submission of their application. All conversion requirements will be identified in the Participant Agreement. To be eligible for the IRS Pathways Internship Program you MUST be enrolled on a full or half-time basis. This is defined by the institution you are enrolled in. If you need to complete less than the equivalent of half an academic/vocational or technical course-load immediately prior to graduating, this is still considered a student for purposes of this Program. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:

Basic Qualification Requirement for GS-01: You must be enrolled in at least a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) program, or other qualifying academic program.

Suitability Requirements:

  • Fingerprint/Criminal History Check - This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time. Rating: Category rating will be used to rank and select eligible candidates. If qualified, you will be assigned to one of two quality level categories, CAT A/B or CAT C.
