The Nurse Resident, GS-7 focuses on direct care of patients participating in clinical research and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members to ensure accurate protocol implementation. The Clinical Research Nurse Residency Program is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Practice to Transition Program. This 12-month residency includes monthly educational sessions, a dedicated cohort program coordinator, and structured peer support.

Duties:
If you are selected for this position under the supervision of the supervisor or experienced RN preceptor your responsibilities will include:
Provides patient care to research participants.
Utilizes advanced critical thinking and nursing skills to assess, plan, perform, and evaluate nursing care for individual patients, their families and significant others, who are participants in biomedical research protocols.
Provides patient-focused nursing care within the interdisciplinary team and collaborate with team members to create and communicate a plan of care that balances clinical care needs with research needs and allows for safe and effective collection of clinical research data.
Exercises the full domain of practice for the specialty of clinical research nursing including providing clinical care to research participants, supporting protocol implementation, data collection, continuity of care, human subject's protection and dissemination of clinical research findings.
Accurately documents observations, identifies trends and important findings, and effectively communicates this information to the multidisciplinary research team and nursing colleagues.
Functions in the role of primary nurse, preceptor, charge nurse and protocol coordinator as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: In order to meet the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse (Resident) GS-0610, you must:

B. Possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

C. You must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) or obtained licensure before the implementation of the NCLEX-RN. Individuals who have not passed the NCLEX-RN, but meet all other qualification requirements will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation of both their education and experience prior to final appointment.
a) Graduating within the upper third of the graduating class in a college, university, or major subdivision such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses.
b) Having a grade point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum;
c) Being elected for membership in a national scholastic honor society.
d) Graduated within the top third of your class.

2. Possess a bachelor's degree in nursing, and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level).

Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and two full years of professional nursing experience at the GS-05 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: performing venipuncture to obtain blood specimens; recording case histories to include taking temperatures, pulse, respiration, height, weight, and blood pressure; testing vision and hearing AND possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing program.

4. Completion of at least one full year of nursing graduate education in a professional nursing educational program.
