Duties

Help
  • Collaborate with other professionals, and agencies involved in providing OB-GYN care services to patients and their family members, and coordinate the care provided.
  • Direct Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB-GYN) health care provider in the capacity of a credentialed Nurse Practitioner to provide OB-GYN care services to female patients.
  • Provide independent, primary, comprehensive and therapeutic health care services, to include examining, assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients in the OB-GYN Clinic.
  • Identify and manage, according to outlined protocols, own case load of antepartum and postpartum patients, and those with gynecologic problems.
  • Provide teaching to patients and their families regarding the disease process, diagnostic tests, the therapeutic regimen including medication, diet and follow-up care.
  • Secure a health and medical history from the patients or family member, record findings and make clinical evaluation.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain a favorable result from a Criminal History Background Check (CHBC). This position requires at least one contact per week or at least four (4) contacts per month with children under the age of 18.
  • This position may be designated "Mission Essential." In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series (Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, etc.)
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a lifting requirement of up to 50 pounds (lbs).
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position. All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network within 30 days of employment.
  • The incumbent will be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, and/or varying schedule.
  • The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner by one of two national certifying organizations, ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) and AANP (American Academy of Nurse Practitioners).

Basic Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse (OB-GYN):Degree: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Positions: A graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area required by the position.

Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse (OB-GYN): must possess licensure or registration by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes: performing physical exams on obstetric or gynecologic patients and prescribing medications. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
