Help
  • Serve as the technical and administrative authority for the development and implementation of all Departmental Performance Improvement, Risk Management, and Patient Safety for the Department of Surgery Trauma Team.
  • Formulate, develop, and implement processes that evaluate, correct, and improve performance, patient safety, customer service, and satisfaction.
  • Facilitate the concurrent review of patient records to assist the identification and documentation of hospital based and American College of Surgeons (ACS) performance improvement variances and complications.
  • Review cases to identify quality, timeliness and systems issues in the care of trauma patients in order to meet ACS standards, departmental and administrative factors.
  • Monitor the outpatient triage of patients in person and by telephone in the trauma program regarding medical necessity, appropriateness of care and quality concerns.
  • Assist in the coordination of educational programs and pre-deployment training to medical personnel in the hospital and the community.
  • Responsible for systematic data collection, rigorous review and analysis, and translating findings into clear, actionable recommendations.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • Childcare Background Investigation - This position has a mandatory childcare background check requirement and is therefore subject to review at any time during incumbency.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform, scrubs, or other appropriate medical professional attire while on duty.
  • "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • It is expected that the candidates have Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) certification or achieve it within one (1) year of hire.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Nurse (Administrative) at the GS-12 level:

Degree:
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained; OR if you are a graduate from a foreign nursing school, official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts or your certificate from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools.)

Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Required Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes: Professional Nursing Experience is defined as: One year of experience which includes evaluating electronic systems, assisting in researching medical technology, and educating staff.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
