This is a Detail Opportunity (Not-to-Exceed 120 days, with possibility to extend). Eligible candidates must be current permanent Department of Justice employees with competitive status.
OES is seeking a Paralegal Specialist to provide direct support to the Department's Policy and Regulatory Clearance team. Depending on need and interest, additional selections made be made to support the Executive Correspondence team. The incumbent performs a variety of duties to support the Department's policy clearance process. The duties of a Paralegal Specialist generally include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist with intake and tracking of clearance items from OIRA, OMB, and the State Department.
Assist with monitoring the Department's clearance inbox and tracking clearances.
Assist Policy Analysts in the preparation of clearance responses for approval by the senior leadership offices to approve final transmission of the Department's response to OIRA, OMB, or the State Department.
Assist in the preparation of regular and ad-hoc reports for Department leadership and components.
Assist in the development and/or updating of briefing materials, fact sheets, standard operating procedures, process charts, and similar materials.
Draft and edit documents, reports, and correspondence. Compile and interpret data from legal and non-legal reference material.
Verify citations and legal references in documents.
Review Executive Orders, statutes, regulations, and other legal authorities to identify, assess, assign, and track responsibilities assigned to the Department's Executive Secretariate program including the clearance process.
Assist with time-sensitive responses to interagency and White House requests for assistance, information, and clearance of policy and other documents.
Carry out special projects requested by senior leadership.
You must successfully pass a security/background investigation.
You must be a current permanent Department of Justice employee with competitive status.
You must meet all applicable time-in-grade requirements by the closing of this announcement.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the position of Paralegal Specialist you must have experience:
Reviewing standard legal documents, reports, and correspondence;
Researching public records;
Applying knowledge of basic legal principles and concepts; AND
Tracking and maintaining detailed records.

Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
Skill in multi-tasking and ability to function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding, often fast-paced environment with short deadlines to produce responses

TheOffice of the Executive Secretariat (OES) serves as a liaison between the Department of Justice's leadership offices and its components by overseeing the review and approval of official documents and coordinating the flow of information critical to rigorous decision making. OES has two main work lanes: 1) Executive Correspondence and 2) Policy and Regulatory Clearance. The Executive Correspondence team manages DOJ's internal process for executive correspondence with Congress, the White House, other Federal agencies, and constituents; supports interagency and internal coordination of Departmental actions and executive communications; and manages executive records and institutional knowledge. The Policy and Regulatory Clearance team is responsible for the Department's process to clear policy and regulatory documents sent by the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) in compliance with Executive Order (E.O.) 12866 as well as other non-DOJ clearance matters.
