This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, Position Description Number D1283000 and is part of the CO FMS 9, National Guard.

The purpose of this position is to serve as a Small Shop Chief with regular and recurring responsibility for the overall operation of a small maintenance shop.

Duties

Help

Plans, accomplishes, and maintains a functional small shop maintenance program. Plans and lays out work to be accomplished by shop workers. Performs limited diagnosis, routine repairs and maintenance on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles. Performs limited diagnoses to determine the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks and/or uses basic test equipment such as compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, and pressure gauges. Removes, replaces, adjusts, cleans, and installs parts and components such as wheel seals, switches, sensors, fuel pumps, water pumps, power steering pumps, brakes, filters, radiators, bearings, springs, shock absorbers, wheel cylinders, starter motors, mufflers, battery cables, and other items of similar complexity. Independently performs routine repairs and maintenance functions in remote locations that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, reinstalling, or replacing defective parts of components and systems using standard parts. Implements safety regulatory requirements. Ensures that other workers in the shop wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions. Conducts limited readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity. May perform routine maintenance and limited repairs on basic communication equipment such as radios, field telephones, amplifiers, switchboards, recorders, intercoms by removing and replacing components and elements. Assists in the maintenance of production reports and records, and makes recommendations to the supervisor. In conjunction with or in the absence of the Tools and Parts Attendant, may maintain supply documentation, receive, store, inventory and issue tools and parts used in the trades operation. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E-1 thru E-8

1. Specialized experience will be used to determine qualifications for the announced position.

2. An applicant's RESUME must provide, in detail, how they meet each specialized experience listed below. Resume must be two pages or less.

3. It must be documented with "from (mm/yy)" and "to (mm/yy)" dates and description of the specialized experience.

4. If education or a degree is required as part of the "Specialized Experience", you must include transcripts.

You will be immediately disqualified if you fail to include specialized experience in your resume.

Must have at least 18 months of Specialized Experience in each of the following:
1. Experience diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems.
2. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment.
3. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems.
4. Experienced in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment, and systems.

Education

Education cannot be substituted for Specialized Experience for this position.

7. Per ARNG-HRH Policy Memorandum #10-39, mandatory Full Time Staff (FTS) training is required within a year of hire as a condition of employment in vacancy announcements for both Technician and Active Guard Reserve positions. Failure of new FTS personnel to complete NGB prescribed courses at PEC within the first year of employment may be cause for reassignment to other full-time positions or termination of their employment.
