Duties

Help
  • Provides the full range of supervisory duties to include personnel and resource management comprised of coordinating staffing support, scheduling, hiring, and enforcement of performance standards
  • Advises the senior leadership on nursing matters; reviews, recommends changes, and assists in the development of regulations, procedures, and other matters.
  • Works with senior leaders to optimize unit performance, meet Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set measures, NCQA recognition, preventive health care measures, access to care and other organizational directed initiatives.
  • Participates in Department of Nursing meetings/activities to enhance the quality of management practices, policy definition, procedures, and programs.
  • Serves as role model to experienced ambulatory care nurses as well as those who work outside of ambulatory care.
  • Provides input regarding organization, structural or content changes throughout the ambulatory care centers, services and clinics in the MTF.
  • Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty, and requirements of assignments and the capabilities of the employees.

  • Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Position requires a Pre-Employment Physical.
  • Required to obtain necessary immunizations (i.e., Hepatitis B, annual influenza) unless exempted by a physician.
  • Position requires approximately 5% TDY/travel.
  • This position has been designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations. The incumbent may be required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • May be required to work uncommon tours of duty hours, working either fixed or rotating shift which may include on call, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • This position is designated as having regular and recurring contact with children under the age of 18 and is subject to requirements of DoDI 1402.05.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).

Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.

Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:


Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes Providing the full range of supervisory duties to include personnel and resource management comprised of coordinating staffing support, scheduling, hiring, and enforcement of performance standard; Advising the senior leadership on nursing matters; providing input regarding organization, structural or content changes throughout the ambulatory care centers, services and clinics in the MTF; Evaluating work performance of subordinates; gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both technical and administrative matters; interviews candidates for vacant positions, recommends promotion or reassignment to such positions and makes selections for subordinate positions. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-11.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Education
