Duties

Help

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER-TITLE 32, WL-5801-10, you will assign work orders and tasks to workers on the basis of individuals' knowledge, skills, and abilities and the supervisor's instruction. Check work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisor's instructions, work orders, and established shop procedures. Answer workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and major repair on equipment/vehicles. Troubleshoot equipment/systems and diagnose difficult performance problems and the cause of mechanical failures. Remove and disassemble engines and systems. Independently perform repairs and maintenance functions with little or no supervision in remote locations. Provide technical guidance and specialized team leadership to lower grade employees within the team. Assist lower grade mechanics in performing major repair work on interconnected complex systems. Perform other duties as assigned.

RANK REQUIREMENT:
Member must provide in writing with their application package that they are willing to accept a reduction in rank in order to be qualified for this position, if applicable. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
You must maintain membership in the Kentucky National Guard.
You must be assigned to a compatible military position.
Wear of the military uniform.

This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT:
Experience that has provided the candidate with sufficient knowledge to complete the work of this occupational series. Ability to lead other technicians performing duties by this occupational series.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Must have 24 months experience diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying vehicles, equipment, and systems. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve maintenance and repair problems. Experience in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems. Experience planning, organizing, and leading the work of others in fields directly related the repair function of this occupational series. Must have the ability to perform administrative functions. Experience reading and interpreting technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment. The ability to provide guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Resume must have complete dates, work schedule, and/or hours worked per week for both civilian and military employment. (Example: 2 JAN 1980 to 3 MAR 1981; 0800-1630 M-F or JAN 1980 to MAR 1981; 40 hrs/wk) Use of year only and unspecified work schedule will result in disqualification.
