Duties

Help

As Food Service Worker, WG-7408, your typical work assignments may include, but not limited to:

  • Set trays in tray assembly line. Sets-up cups, utensils, condiments, and hot and cold beverages on trays according to standard practice. Loads and pushes tray cart to designated area.
  • Follows established procedures and standards on in assisting the cook in cooking meals according to the menu and portion sizes.
  • Practices good health responsibilities in the kitchen by using proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and sanitation practices.
  • Maintains dish machine, sets-up, operates, breaks-down and cleans dish machine, pot washers, tray conveyors, refrigerators, freezers or other comparable equipment or appliances.
  • Follows standard practices to rotate inventory promoting first-in/first-out issue. Moves covered and stored food for easy access. stores food according to standard practice.
  • Cleans work tables, facilities or bathrooms as scheduled or when assigned. As scheduled or assigned, cleans toilets, sinks, mirrors, floors, etc. adheres appropriate sanitation standards.

  • A background security investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication.

  • Incumbent is required to operate a government motor vehicle, must possess a valid driver's license, and have a safe driving record within the 4 year period immediately preceding submittal of GSA Form 3607.
  • Drug Testing. This position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. The applicant must meet the requirements for the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Handbook X118C, Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations. The applicant must have sufficient training and experience to be trusted to perform duties on their initiative under general supervision .While no specific amount of experience is required, you must show that you possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.

Physical Effort: May be required to perform heavy work, such as scouring and scrubbing large size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. May be required to work on ladders and use powered cleaning equipment. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Will be standing for prolong hours.

Working Conditions: The work is performed in the detention center under high stressful situations. The work is performed in kitchen areas where the steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well lighted but usually noisy from food service activities, and there is danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped, Regular1y exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units.
