About the Position: Sierra Army depot is located in Herlong, Ca, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles of Susanville, Ca. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities.

Duties

Help
  • Perform minor mechanical repairs.
  • Conduct scheduled periodic load tests.
  • Test equipment to ensure the equipment and related components operate in accordance with regulations and standards established for the equipment or set.
  • Process hazardous waste generated by employee in accordance with prescribed procedures.
  • Correct inspection discrepancies listed by inspectors.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 2 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Forklift Operator License to operate forklift equipment.
  • This position requires you to work in shifts and overtime as needed.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Mechanical Equipment Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks which include correcting inspection discrepancies for organization and performing maintenance to complete trip tickets. I am skilled in performing minor repairs for safe operations. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work assignments involve standing and working on concrete and asphalt for long periods, climbing, reaching, sitting, laying, bending, and occasionally working in cramped, awkward positions. Continuously uses hand and arm dexterity. Pulls, pushes, and lifts items weighing up to 45 pounds. For heavier items, two or more workers lift or move.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside in warehouse shops that are occasionally hot, cold, damp or drafty. Works outside frequently in all types of weather. Subject to cuts and abrasions when using tools and is exposed to grease, oil, dirt, acids, paints, etc. Must observe existing safety rules related to wearing of protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes and wearing of helmets and earplugs when assisting crane operator.
