Help
  • Conduct onsite inspections of health care delivery provided to beneficiaries to evaluate quality of care, quality of life and the provision of other services.
  • Provide guidance and direction on survey issues to state agency (SA) staff.
  • Formulate or recommends needed revisions or changes to existing program policies, criteria, standards and procedures.
  • Analyze statistical and historical data, claims data, and reports to assess SA effectiveness in the survey process and to recommend improvements.

  • You will be subject to a background and suitability investigation.
  • As much as 80% of time may be spent in domestic travel status. Travel requirements are prescribed by the supervisor based on the needs of the region or the program.
  • Must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).
  • Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse (i.e., RN) from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Must have a valid driver's license from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Must successfully complete the Basic Long-Term Care Healthcare Facility Surveyor Training Course (BLTCC) within the first year of employment and must successfully complete the Surveyor Minimum Qualification Test (SMQT) to survey independently.

In order to qualify for the GS-13 grade level, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, which includes:
1) Conducting onsite surveys or quality reviews to evaluate the performance and effectiveness of health care facilities or providers.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Education Requirement: In addition to meeting the qualification requirements, all candidates must have the following educational requirements:
-A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or a diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. The education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. **If the degree is from a Foreign Nursing School, an official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required. (NOTE: TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED TO BE UPLOADED AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION).
