Duties

Help

You will serve as a Sheet Metal Worker (Aircraft) and be responsible for performing aircraft sheet metal worker level duties, training others in that trade or other trades if skilled, and performing varied tasks in other trades.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Assembling parts by seaming, bolting, screwing, or riveting.
  • Fabricating simple items using metal working tools and equipment, grinding corrosion, replacing anchor nuts and rivets, reaming holes, examining aircraft hulls for obvious defects, and patching skin/holes.
  • Measuring plans and patterns with pocket rulers, hook rulers, flexible and semi-flexible steel rulers, compasses and other hand measuring devices.
  • Cutting and forming by use of basic hand and powered tools such as hammers, chisels, hand snips, band and circle saws, square shears, seamers, bar folders, brakes and stakes.

  1. U.S. Citizenship is required.
  2. Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  3. The applicant will be subject to pre-appointment and random drug testing.
  4. The applicant will be subject to a pre-appointment medical physical.
  5. May be required to fly on Coast Guard aircraft.
  6. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  7. Occasional Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) is required.
  8. Subject to overtime or recall.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience.

Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:

  1. Ability to do the work without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT ELEMENT).
  2. Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Material, etc. (includes constructing, repair, and forging).
  3. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading).
  4. Layout and Pattern Development (includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation).
  5. Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc. for Metal Work.
  6. Dexterity (Assembly Disassembly reassembly).
