Duties

Help

The purpose of the position is to operate one or more types of heavy equipment.

Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member.
  • Determining safe working loads and conditions and manipulating various controls in response to hand signals to move various equipment.
  • Performing refueling and routine maintenance of equipment, including oil and filter changes, tire repairs and chassis and wire rope lubrication.
  • Transporting a variety of loads including buoys, small boats, wood and steel pilings, vessel masts, booms, crane sections, engines, and heavy equipment and machines.
  • Selecting and using miscellaneous rigging equipment such as cable, cloth slings, strongbacks and spreaders to lift, move, and position antennas, small engines crated materials, etc.
*Building and setting up forms and molds to fabricate concrete sinkers weighting 2000 to 12,500 pounds to anchor buoys.

Qualifications

  • Ability to perform the work of the position without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT)
  • Operation of motor vehicles.
  • Work practices (including keeping things near, clean and in order.)
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)
  • Reliability and dependability as a Crane Operator
