Help
  • Administer lifesaving procedures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other emergency first- aid procedures to stabilize patients.
  • Administer oxygen, IV fluid, oral, subcutaneous and intramuscular medications as prescribed.
  • Administer medications and treatments authorized by a medical provider, such as, B-12 injections, vaccinations and allergy injections.
  • Perform point of care testing such as glucose, urinalysis, electrocardiograms, audiograms, and spirometry.
  • Provide education and counseling to employees on health topics that comply with recent evidence-based research.

  • Selectee must be vaccinated against Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) as a Washington, D.C. nurse.
  • Licensure: Selectee must have an active, current license as a Registered Nurse.
  • Certification: Selectee must possess Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Support

Qualifications

To qualify for the Occupational Health Nurse, PU -0610-11, you must meet all of the following requirements:

1. Education:
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate's degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

AND

2. Licensure:
Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current active full and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

AND

3. Experience/Education:
In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; OR
  • At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the PU-9 grade level) which includes: (1) Recognizing life-threatening emergencies, initiating immediate stabilizing care and coordinating with emergency medical services for timely transport to a healthcare facility; (2) Providing services as an occupational health nurse in an industrial-clinic environment; (3) Experience in emergency room and trauma treatment; (4) Ability to work autonomously, using critical thinking skills while managing multiple tasks simultaneously; and (5) Basic computer skills and the ability to operate an electronic medical records system, AND possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.

AND

4. Certifications:
In addition to the basic requirements listed above, applicants must possess the following certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS); and
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement, 06/24/2025, to be considered.

If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Background Investigation - For a Suitability:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. This position requires a background investigation for Suitability. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background check for Suitability. This review could include fingerprints and credit checks, as well as a full field FBI background investigation and tax and bar checks for attorney applicants. The background investigation covers a period of seven to ten years depending on the nature of the position. This process may take 6 weeks or longer. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to pass the background investigation.
