This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

• Coordinate patient care throughout the sub-specialty clinics within the Department of Pediatrics, making appropriate referrals if needed.
• Collect patient data through interviews, observation, physical examination and review of medical records.
• Maintain reporting databases for patient tracking, national certifications, research, and treatment protocols.
• Identify situations in which the physician should be notified immediately.
• Educate patient and family on pre-procedure requirements, intra-procedure plans and post-procedure care.
• Administer oxygen, IV fluids, IV medications, and blood transfusions.
• Monitor patient for adverse reactions such as respiratory or cardiac arrest, seizure, nausea, fever and excessive bleeding.
• Participate in discharge planning teams, research, clinical pathway development and implementation.
• Assist physicians with complex procedures to include caring for the moderately sedated pediatric patient.
• Provide nursing care for the pediatric patient during the sedated and post-sedation period.
• Interpretate laboratory reports to assess the impact of the procedure upon the pediatric patient.
• Perform pre and post procedure assessment to develop a nursing plan of care.
• Conduct outpatient pediatric disease specific education classes.
• Serve as a resource person to a wide variety of professional health colleagues regarding nursing practice.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so
• The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position requires you to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
• Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
• Incumbent must obtain and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training and certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network or the Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) within one year of employment.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
• Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• Incumbent must successfully pass Army Medical Center (AMC) Sedation Test within three months of employment.
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Clinical/Pediatric):

Degree: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).

Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.

Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

EXEMPTION: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017, or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) which includes 1) Performing direct nursing care to pediatric patients for medical, surgical, or diagnostic procedures; 2) Administering infusions, medications, or fluids to patients in accordance with policy; and 3) Overseeing nursing staff schedules and performance.

OR

Education: A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.

EXEMPTION: You are exempt from the qualification requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017, or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet one of the requirements below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) from a professional nursing program.

OR

3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education from a professional nursing program.
