Duties

Help
  • Provides written and oral information to the public on the mission and role of BLM, recreational opportunities, wild horse and burro adoptions, map purchases, area archeology and area history.
  • Explains rules related to the use of recreational areas and facilities; informs/persuades contacts to obtain public cooperation in protecting resources from fire, vandalism, pollution and litter, as well as other improper or prohibited activities.
  • Responds to inquiries concerning such matters as land status and ownership, land sales, timber sales, mining claims, oil and gas leases and permits, rights of way, and/or grazing permits
  • Conducts research necessary to respond to written or in-person inquiries, and, when appropriate, refers complex technical inquiries to the proper sources of information, such as resource specialists or other agencies.
  • Performs general office clerical work as assigned, such as travel; time and attendance; mail collection and distribution; answering phones and routing calls; etc.

Qualifications

At the GS-05 Level: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is further defined as: routine support tasks in a busy office environment; providing routine information to the public and internal customers by phone, email, and in person; preparing written correspondence, or using automations systems, maintaining files and related materials; OR completed four (4) years of education above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the prerequisite, OR an equivalent combination of the experience and education described above.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. Undergraduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: The work involves sitting and standing, typically in a public room environment. Moderate lifting of plats and public information documents may be required.

Work Environment: Work is performed in an office building that requires normal safety precautions.

Education

This position falls under the Clerical and Administrative Support Position, Series 0962. There are no Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for this job series.

This position allows for education to be substituted for specialized experience (see qualification section for education requirements). If using education to qualify - You MUST submit a copy of ALL your college transcripts or a list of ALL college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university. Upon selection, official transcripts must be received prior to appointment. If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
