Serving as a Deputy Assistant Director GS-0301-15 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is located in the Mission and Readiness Support Directorate (MRSD) in Glynco, Georgia..

The primary purpose of this position is to conduct, direct, and oversee operational planning and execution, as well as formulate and implement policies within the following management lines of business: acquisitions, asset and logistics, environmental and sustainability, facilities management, procurement, safety, student support services, real property management, and training venue administration and maintenance.

Typical duties include:

  • Advising and assisting FLETC senior leaders and other agency officials in carrying out FLETC's law enforcement training mission by effectively and efficiently managing these program areas.

  • Directing the development and presentation of FLETC responses to inquiries from Congress, OMB, DHS, Government Accountability Office, Office of Personnel Management and other government entities regarding the full range of mission and readiness support services related matters.

  • Represents FLETC at meetings, gatherings, and forums where extensive briefings to senior officials on current and evolving mission and readiness support-related matters will be given.

  • Supervising directorate program staff through subordinate division chiefs.

  • Determining the resources to devote to various program(s).

  • Making and effecting recommendations regarding significant internal and external programs that affect the DHS and FLETC.

  • Establishing long-range goals, objectives, and plans for the directorate and making adjustments based upon changes in legislation, program authority, and/or funding.

  • Planning, prioritizing and scheduling completion of work; assigning specific duties to subordinates; setting performance standards; evaluating performance; providing advice and counsel to subordinate employees on technical and administrative matters; interviewing and selecting candidates for vacant positions; identifying and providing for the training needs of subordinate staff; articulating and advocating the maintenance of a safe, healthy work environment; and ensuring observance of equal employment opportunity and affirmative employment policies.

Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as: planning, managing, supervising and administering any of the following program areas/business lines: acquisition/contracting, property management, environmental and safety, design and construction, emergency management, continuity of operations, assets management, and facilities.

Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement.

Physical Demands: The work is predominantly sedentary but does require some intermittent physical exertion.

Work Environment: The employee works in an office setting. The position may involve travel to various FLETC sites to participate in inspection and accreditation activities. Occasionally, the work may involve exposure to moderate safety hazards associated with weapons firing ranges, automobile driving ranges, and other law enforcement training sites.

Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of our mission, FLETC requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation for Top Secret as a condition of placement in this position. This review may include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs.
