Duties

Help

As a Lead Government Information Specialist, your typical work assignments may include:

  • Providing briefings and trainings to employees on issues regarding various FOIA/PA topics.
  • Researching and clarifying the nature of each request, inquiry, matter related broad issues/problems involved, and the details to effectively, appropriately, and efficiently respond.
  • Overseeing the preparation of responses to other federal government agencies, the DOJ, Congress, and the general public.
  • Conducting extensive record searches and makes disclosure determinations.
  • Provides general guidance and instruction as to methods and techniques to be used in completing assignments.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all of the required qualification requirements described below by the closing of this announcement.

Applicants applying for the GS13 must meet the following requirements:

Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-12 grade level. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Serving as an advisor and technical authority on the statutory and regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and precedents of the Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act (FOIA/PA); 2) Providing FOIA and Privacy Program advocacy, oversight, leadership, and guidance in alignment with the FOIA and PA regulations; 3) Researching, analyzing, and evaluating records and/or data, and responds to a variety of complex Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act (PA) requests; and 4) Conducting training and mentoring junior Government Information Specialists assigned to the unit.

Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
