This position will be filled under the Office of Personnel Management's Direct Hire Authority and is open to all United States citizens and U.S. nationals. As a Biologist your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Maintain and operate sophisticated automated fish tagging systems on salmon and trout at state and federal hatcheries as directed.
Serves as team leader for seasonal and permanent technical staff to insure high tag and mark quality, tracts and records their time and reports it accurately and on time to the Admin officer and Branch Supervisor, and tracks their movements while on the job to insure safety.
Implement approved standard operating procedures that efficiently and uniformly achieve tagging project objectives and high levels of QA/QC, insures safe operations, insures proper operation and repair of tagging and recovery equipment, oversee recovery and CWT lab samples, and monitor CWT and recovery data in a timely fashion per program needs.
Assists with tag and recovery field operations and training when required.
Performs summary data analysis and results form the tag and data recovery phase as required or directed, and leads such efforts on teams to report tagging project results in reports and in peer-reviewed papers in the primary literature.
Suitability for employment, as determined by background investigation.
Driver’s License: This position requires the incumbent to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of their official duties. Selectee must hold and maintain a valid state driver’s license throughout their employment in this position.

Qualifications
Only experience and education obtained by 12/20/2024 will be considered.
In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification.
Basic Requirement:
A bachelor's degree or higher in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. I will submit my transcripts with my application that verifies this. OR
A combination of education and experience that included coursework equivalent to a major (i.e. 24 semester/36 quarter hours or school equivalent) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines as shown in A above, PLUS appropriate experience or additional education, and in combination equals 100% of the basic requirements.
Minimum Qualification [GS-11]
One year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience includes (1) Assisting with biological investigations to determine the status of fish or wildlife populations; (2) Assisting with development of study plans to evaluate status of fish or wildlife populations; and (3) Collaborating with senior and junior staff, other government agencies, landowners, private interest groups on fish or wildlife restoration projects. Three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree -OR- have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or closely related field which provided the knowledge skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position. OR
A combination of education and experience as described in 1 and 2 above which together equals 100% of the requirement
