Duties

Help

As a/an Nurse, you will:

  • Plan and provide comprehensive nursing care to residents based on history, physician's medical care plan, and the physical, mental, and emotional needs.
  • Administer oral, subcutaneous and intramuscular medications routinely and instructs patients in the side effects of medications when appropriate.
  • Document resident care information in patients' chart to reflect nursing care, planned monthly summary, changes in the condition of the resident, and current condition of the resident in accordance with established documentation guidelines.
  • Stay informed on current nursing practices through journal readings, attendance of continuing education programs, unit in-services, conferences, etc. Assumes responsibility for on-going unit programs such as quality assurance, patient education, discharge planning, and unit in-service education. Assumes responsibility for on-going self-learning and maintenance of clinical skills.

The AFRH ethics program promotes the highest standards of ethical conduct for all employees. As an AFRH employee, you will also be subject to the AFRH Supplemental Ethics Regulations which restrict the extent to which a AFRH employee can engage in certain activities and hold certain investments. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience includes one year of experience at the GS-09 level or equivalent that includes:
Conducting patient/resident assessment; AND
Developing and carrying out nursing care plans; AND
Medication administration (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal, topical, rectal, intravenous, etc.); AND
Communicating patient/resident condition and changes to patient/resident, nursing personnel, physicians, and family members.

OR

Education: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field (e.g., chemistry, biology, microbiology). Degrees from Foreign Nursing Schools: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired.

RN- For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Education

Education Requirements: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • A one year probationary period may be required.

  • Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical examination. An OF-178, Certificate of Medical Examination will be required if selected for this position. DO NOT SUBMIT AT TIME OF APPLICATION.
  • Selectees will be subject to the AFRH Tuberculosis Surveillance Program.
  • Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
  • Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis.
  • Because the AFRH's mission requires uninterrupted, direct human support and medical care for its Residents, this position is considered essential for continuing AFRH operations. Therefore, the incumbent is expected to arrive for duty on time, as scheduled, and to complete the assigned tour during emergency situations such as hazardous weather.
