This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), New York Division, Albany/Buffalo District Office.

This position(s) primary purpose is to support the investigative and administrative support, which requires not only support for the collection, storage, retrieval, and dissemination of criminal or non-criminal investigative data, but also extensive responsibility for coordination of work outside the organization and is necessary for successful unit mission accomplishment.

Duties

Help

As a INVESTIGATIVE ASSISTANT , your typical work assignments may include:

  • Maintains administrative control of all investigative cases through the use of an automated case log and status system, and appropriate filing systems.
  • Establishes suspense, ensures pertinent case information is provided to investigative personnel and advises supervisor of management actions necessary to ensure timely and thorough investigations.
  • Performs typing and word processing functions and makes proper distribution of reports.
  • Serves as the organization's focal point for providing office management services for an organization with extensive responsibility for coordinating work outside of the organization.
  • Assists the supervisor's subordinates in the procedural aspects of expediting the work of the office, including redistributing clerical assignments to take care of fluctuating workloads.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Qualification claims will be subject to verification. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You may qualify at the GS-7 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrate your ability in: 1) Conducting complex and unique law enforcement searches and queries; 2) Gathering and analyzing data; 3) Preparing various reports related to investigations; 4) Making recommendations based on findings; and, 5) Identifying inaccuracies or anomalies in the information gathered.
