As a INTERDISCIPLINARY OPERATIONS RESEARCH ANALYST/COMPUTER SCIENTIST at the GS-1515/1550-14 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Within Wargaming Branch, incumbent supports the analysis and evaluation of joint future concepts and their associated ways and means, incorporates computer hardware and software in the analysis and evaluation of joint future concepts via wargaming to improve delivery of U.S. operational capabilities to the future joint force.
  • Participates in the development of experimentation and wargaming events, data collection and analysis plans, to ensure results that will best determine the value of and enable implementation of validated joint concepts and capabilities.
  • Conducts research and analysis of joint concept and future capability issues and formulation of recommendations related to the development of Service, multinational, and CJCS level events.
  • Participates in developing analyses and feedback for further refinement of joint concepts, white papers, concept required capabilities, and supporting documents within the context of classified Defense Planning Scenarios and associated future threats and technology trends.
  • Lead the development and implementation of models, systems, hardware, and software for purposes of wargame adjudication, visualization, and game player processes

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS -14 , if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service as listed below:

  • Participate in the development of wargaming events, and accompanying collection and analysis plans to ensure results that will best determine the value of and enable implementation of validated joint concepts and capabilities;
  • Development of wargaming models, tools, and systems to support adjudication, visualization, and game player processes;
  • Perform projects as a lead analyst for a matrixed team to include planning, preparing, and producing plans and other required documents for analytic wargames;
  • Provide subject-matter expert (SME) analysis and advising as a team member on large projects in support of the evaluation of joint concepts, capabilities-based assessments and wargaming;
  • Providing modeling and simulation support in support of wargame adjudication processes and analysis, and wargame systems support

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1515/1550, series as listed below:

For the 1515 series: Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

For the 1550 series: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. The incumbent must be able to acquire and retain Top Secret Clearance eligibility with Sensitive Compartmented Information access, based upon a Single Scoped Background Investigation. Position may include additional program security requirements in order to fully perform the duties and reviews responsibilities of the position.

This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the civilian drug-testing program.
