Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list

As a Surface Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor (TITLE 32), WS-5801-9, you will:

  • Plans the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials, and tools on a day-to-day or project-by-project basis.
  • Adheres to work priorities,project schedules, resources, and detailed work plans established by the supervisor.
  • Follows customary work cycles and sequences in planning workassignments.
  • Tracks and reports progress on work assignments and requests authority to adjust worker assignments; and to use overtime, equipment, andmaterials to meet schedules.
  • Recommends changes to schedules, priorities, and work sequences as necessary and makes minor deviations in procedures or redirects resources under their control to overcome problems such as equipment failure, material delays, or unplanned absences.
  • Assigns work to personnel and provides technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes.
  • Observes workin progress to anticipate and resolve problems.
  • Reassigns personnel within groups supervised and coordinates work among workers and other supervisors tomaintain work progress to meet schedules.
  • Inspects completed work for quality and work order requirements.
  • Reports possible or actual work delays to the supervisor.
  • Supports and explains management programs to subordinates.
  • Recommends performance ratings, training, disciplinary actions, changes in performance standards, and the most suitable applicants for vacancies.
  • Advises and counsels workers on how to improve performance and explains new work techniques.
  • Investigates grievances and complaints, resolves them informally, and notifies the supervisor of those of sufficient importance or seriousness.
  • Assures safety and housekeeping practices are observed. Maintains work reports and records and assists the supervisor in planning overall leave schedules.
  • Performs the nonsupervisory functions of the organizational segment supervised.
  • Implements regulatory safety requirements and ensures that subordinates wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions.
  • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises.
  • May be required toperform additional duties such as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavyequipment operator, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Military Rank: Enlisted/Warrant Officer

Compatible Military Assignments: ENL: CMF 12, 13, 14, 19, 25, 88, 91, 92, 94. WO: BR 12, 13, 14, 19, 25, 91, 92 94, 882A.

  • National Guard Membership is required.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Medical screening will be completed upon selection for hire.
  • Soldiers who accept a technician position may be terminated from the Bonus and Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Have experience diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experienced in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems. AND experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
