Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list

As a Surface Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor (TITLE 32), WS-5801-13, you will:

  • Plans on a quarterly or longer basis, the overall use of subordinate personnel and resources under their control.
  • Determines resource requirements, materials, the number of subordinates and the types of skill necessary to accomplish long-range work schedules.
  • Allocates resources and distributes work to organizational segments or groups under their control.
  • Analyzes work plans developed by subordinate supervisors and monitors the status of their work in relation to the overall schedule requirements, including unanticipated or emergency requirements.
  • Obtains prior approval of changes that would modify or deviate overall work schedules or affect work operations controlled by supervisors not under their control.
  • Provides information and advice to higher-level supervisors, management officials, and staff organizations on feasibility of work assignments as scheduled, budget estimates, and workload data to assist in developing or reviewing proposed long-range schedules and work requirements, and may participate with superiors in planning conferences and meetings.
  • Assigns and explains work requirements and operating instructions to subordinate supervisors, sets deadlines, and establishes the sequence of work operations to be followed.
  • Evaluates work operations and reviews completed work and inspection reports to assure that standards are met.
  • Assures that subordinate supervisors effectively carry out policies to achieve management objectives.
  • Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordinate supervisors, makes formal appraisals of their performance, and determines their training needs.
  • Serves as a management representative at hearings, meetings, and negotiations involving labor management relations.
  • Develops, publishes, and ensures employee compliance with standing operating procedures for the activity supervised.
  • Implements and complies with agency, state, and federal regulatory Occupational Safety and Health, and environmental requirements.
  • Ensures use of quality conformant products through compliance with established materials shelf life programs.
  • Ensures all aspects of Force Protection to include physical security, facility and vehicle key control, property accountability, access control and employee protection in accordance with established policies and regulations.
  • Implements procedures to account for all real property, installation property, MTO&E(Modified Tables of Organization and Equipment) property, TDA (Tables of Distribution and Allowances) property, and installed equipment located at or assigned to the facility in accordance with state and federal regulations and policies.
  • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership.   • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Must have experience or training leading to an extensive knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operation, and working relationships of complex interconnecting systems, assemblies, and parts for a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment. Ability to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and modify interconnected complex systems on a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment. Extensive knowledge of state of the art electrical, electronic, complex hydraulic, pneumatic, and other major non-mechanical systems that have a functional relationship and effect on the operation of major mechanical systems. Extensive knowledge of hydraulic lifting, loading, turning, and positioning systems and their mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic controls. Skill and knowledge to develop or improvise methods, alter parts, and make repairs in the absence of technical guidelines (such as modifying parts to fit and mesh into systems for which the parts were not designed); improvise modifications to equipment to correct recurring malfunctions; and design modifications to meet special test requirements or other special needs..
AND experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
