Duties

Help
  • Responsible for disseminating factual information to the public on multiple resource management programs and services.
  • Responds to inquiries concerning such matters as land status and ownership, land sales, timber sales, mining claims, permits, rights of way, and/or grazing permits.
  • Conducts research necessary to respond to written or in-person inquiries, and, when appropriate, refers complex technical inquiries to the proper resource specialist or other agencies.
  • Explain rules, policies, and procedures to members of the public and work to persuade contacts to cooperate.
  • Sells documents, maps, books, records, and various permits such as firewood and vegetative, Recreation passes/permits and other similar permits and materials.
  • Designated as a cashier/collection officer and is accountable for funds collected.
  • Orders and maintains inventories of products for publication for sale and public distributions.
  • Performs general office clerical work as assigned, such as travel; time and attendance; mail collection and distribution; answering phones and routine calls; etc. and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience.

GS-5: one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 level in the federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include preparing general correspondence, operation of a front desk, collecting money, selling maps, or other items, OR Successful completion of four years of higher education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree. OR A combination of experience and education to meet total experience.

GS-06: To be qualified for the GS-06 this specialized experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (one year at the GS-5) of the position to be filled. Examples include operating a front desk, collecting money for goods or services, balancing daily registers, maintaining cooperative working relationships with others; and explaining information or ideas (orally and in writing) to others in a logical manner.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands/Work Environment: The work is typically sedentary. Some work may require periods of walking, standing, bending, or driving a motor vehicle. The incumbent may frequently lift relatively light boxes, materials, and supplies and /or carry file folder's copied materials, books, and other similar materials. Work is typically located in an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office environment. The work environment may involve everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, mail distribution centers, meeting and training rooms, libraries, or motor vehicles.

Education

Applicants may qualify for these positions based on experience, education, or an equivalent combination as described in the Qualifications section of this announcement.

If qualifying based on education, you will need to clearly state your undergraduate/graduate degree(s) and you must submit copies of all transcripts or a list of college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university. Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-6 and 7.
