Help

At the entry level of this position, you will:

  • Work closely with the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Officer to conduct the initial intake and interviews of individuals and advise them of their basic EEO rights and responsibilities.
  • Work closely with the EEO Officer to develop, implement, and monitor EEO programs and report the status.
  • Work closely with the EEO Officer to research current EEO laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Work closely with the EEO Officer to develop and implement strategies for managing Special Emphasis Programs.
  • Work closely with the EEO Officer to review organizational systems policies and practices to ensure that diversity management is integrated into the operations of the organization.

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.  NOTE: Career ladder promotions are not automatic, and all eligibility and qualifications requirements must be met in order to progress to the next grade level.

This position is designated as Moderate Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation. All conditions of the pre-employment security process must be met before an official letter of employment can be issued with a report for duty date.

You must meet time in grade requirements no later than 30 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement.

If you are selected, you may be required to complete a one-year probationary period if appointed as Competitive Service or a two-year trial period if appointed as Excepted Service.

Qualifications

NOTE: You must meet qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

To qualify for the GS-07 level, you must have one of the following:

  • 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level defined as conducting initial intake and interviews of individuals filing complaints, and collecting complaint documents.
  • 1 full year of graduate level education; or superior academic achievement (Superior Academic Achievement Definition); the education must provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position
  • equivalent combination of education and experience

To qualify for the GS-09 level, you must have one of the following:

  • 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level defined as conducting initial intake and interviews of individuals filing complaints, collecting complaint documents, and conducting fact-finding analyses.
  • master's or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related; the education must provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position
  • equivalent combination of education and experience

Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of the principles, concepts, legal requirements, and methodology of EEO programs.
  • Skill in applying conventional fact finding, analytical, and problem-solving methods.
  • Ability to identify problems, make conclusions, and recommend corrective or other appropriate action to management.
  • Skill in oral communication.
  • Ability to collaborate with others.
  • Skill in written communication.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
