Help

The Student Trainee will have the opportunity to apply their background in foreign languages,
regional studies, international relations, political science, history, business, economics, or finance to DFC's advancement of U.S. foreign policy. Key responsibilities will include:

- Using related steps, processes, or methods, monitor and analyze political and economic
developments in countries in which DFC operates, including for DFC leadership.

- Inventory, aggregate, and narrate DFC's investments, especially to prepare for engagements with foreign governments and key stakeholders.

- Register, escort, and otherwise welcome visitors.

- Set up, attend, and take notes in meetings. Write and circulate readouts that capture the
key points and follow-up actions coming out of those meetings.

- Draft tweets and other social media posts.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-04 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirements:

No Specialized Experience.

GS-4: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.

Academic studies in foreign languages, regional studies, international relations, political science, history, business, economics, or finance are desirable.

PASS/FAIL COURSES:
If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION is education acquired outside of any State of the U.S., the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, a Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, or any territory or possession of the U.S. If you are using foreign education to meet qualification and/or eligibility requirements, you must submit a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency (a U.S. private organization's interpretation that such education has been deemed at least equivalent to conventional U.S. education programs or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university) with your application in order to receive credit for that education. (Foreign education transcripts will not be accepted). For more information regarding evaluation of foreign education for federal employment, please visit the U.S. Department of Education webpage on the Recognition of Foreign Qualifications. All transcripts must be in English or include an English translation.

Salary will be based upon the locality pay areas, as defined by OPM, and will be adjusted based upon the selectee's duty location.

This position is eligible to be 100% remote. Applicants are encouraged to select "location negotiable" as their preferred duty station, if they are interested in a remote opportunity. The option to work out of the DFC's office in downtown Washington, DC is available to candidates who are interested. If applicants select Washington, DC as their preferred duty station, the selectee will be expected to report to the office and follow the agency's telework policy.

Stipulations of Employment: The duration of an excepted service appointment in the Pathways Program is a trial period. Appointees must sign a Participant Agreement that sets forth the expectations for the Pathways Program. At the successful conclusion of this program, the agency may non-competitively convert individuals to a term (position lasting 1-4 years with an extension up to 120 days) or permanent position within the competitive service. Conversion to a Federal competitive service position will be at the discretion of the agency and is neither guaranteed nor implied.

To be eligible for conversion, Student Intern must:

  • Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program
  • Complete their degree or certificate requirements
  • Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted
  • Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and
  • Perform their job successfully.

The Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed. The position must be related to the student's academic field of study or the student's career interests. If you are graduating from your present course of study at the end of the current semester/quarter, to be eligible for this program you must be continuing your education next semester/quarter and be accepted for enrollment seeking a diploma, certificate, bachelor's degree, graduate degree, or professional degree from a qualifying educational institution on a full- or half-time basis.

If you are selected, travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid by DFC. Any travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting to work in this position will be your responsibility.
