This internship position is with the Environmental & Social Risk Assessment division of DFC's Office of Development Policy (ODP). Working with deal teams, ODP reviews all potential investments for environmental and social risks, assesses the expected impact of each investment, monitors projects throughout implementation to assess their impacts and report on lessons learned, and administers DFC's Technical Assistance program.

Reviews documentation on potential or existing DFC transactions in support of the core work ofODP's Environmental & Social Risk Assessment team.

Documentation may cover diverse aspects of a transaction such as environmental and social management systems, business plans, financing structure, and local environmental and labor conditions.

Identifies, collects, and provides analysis of relevant information concerning the potential impacts of investments on the environment, affected communities, and workers near these investments.

May assist analysts in eligibility screening, desk-based diligence, and drafting policy clearances to explain and document E&S risks.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements at the closing date of this announcement.

You may qualify at the GS-07 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:

A. Completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in a field of study that demonstrates the competencies required by this position with either (1) a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale; (2) a 3.5 GPA based on a 4.0 scale for all required courses completed in a qualifying major field of study at either the time of application or during the last two years of your undergraduate curriculum; (3) class standing of upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or a major subdivision of the college; or, (4) membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society certified by the Association of College Honor Societies, excluding freshman honor societies;

OR

B. One full year of graduate level education in an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in one of the following related fields International Development, International Business, Finance, or a closely related field.. The education must demonstrate the competencies necessary to do the work of the position.

PASS/FAIL COURSES:
If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Salary will be based upon the locality pay areas, as defined by OPM, and will be adjusted based upon the selectee's duty location.

This position is eligible to be 100% remote. Applicants are encouraged to select "location negotiable" as their preferred duty station, if they are interested in a remote opportunity. The option to work out of the DFC's office in downtown Washington, DC is available to candidates who are interested. If applicants select Washington, DC as their preferred duty station, the selectee will be expected to report to the office and follow the agency's telework policy.

Stipulations of Employment: The duration of an excepted service appointment in the Pathways Program is a trial period. Appointees must sign a Participant Agreement that sets forth the expectations for the Pathways Program. At the successful conclusion of this program, the agency may non-competitively convert individuals to a term (position lasting 1-4 years with an extension up to 120 days) or permanent position within the competitive service. Conversion to a Federal competitive service position will be at the discretion of the agency and is neither guaranteed nor implied.

To be eligible for conversion, Student Intern must:

  • Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program
  • Complete their degree or certificate requirements
  • Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted
  • Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and
  • Perform their job successfully.

The Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed. The position must be related to the student's academic field of study or the student's career interests. If you are graduating from your present course of study at the end of the current semester/quarter, to be eligible for this program you must be continuing your education next semester/quarter and be accepted for enrollment seeking a diploma, certificate, bachelor's degree, graduate degree, or professional degree from a qualifying educational institution on a full- or half-time basis.
