What will I do in this position if hired?

In this position, you will serve as the Radiological Emergency Response and Procedures (REPP) Program Specialist. Typical assignments include:

  • Assisting with reviewing state and local radiological emergency response plans and procedures, Annual Letters of Certification, and Public Information materials for compliance with FEMA REP Program guidance.
  • Assisting in development of REP reports and correspondence. Attend training and experiential learning activities to build and maintain the knowledge and skills required to serve as a REPP exercise evaluator.
  • Performing data management to enhance data availability, reporting, trend analysis, and decision-making.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of EMS (Recent Graduate) (GS-0089-9), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below in addition to possessing the required education and/or specialized experience specific to the series and grade you are applying to.

Basic Requirement: To be eligible, applicants must apply within two years of degree or certificate completion (except for veterans precluded from doing so due to their military service obligation, who have up to six years after degree completion to apply).

NOTE: You must submit transcripts or official documentation, to verify Recent Graduate Program eligibility. Transcripts MUST reflect the degree/ certificate program and the degree conferred date (official transcripts are required upon selection).

In addition to the eligibility requirements for the Pathways Recent Graduate Program, you must also meet the following qualifications requirements in order to qualify for the EMS.

The qualification requirements listed below must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

To qualify for this position at the GS-09 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following:

  • Participated in emergency management exercise development and execution; and
  • Assited in emergency management functions including response, recovery, or mitigation.

OR- Applicants may substitute successful completion of 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education or Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B or J.D). (36semester hours, 54 quarter hours, or the equivalent) - OR - a combination of appropriate specialized experience (as described above) and graduate education (as described above) that is beyond the first year of progressive graduate study to meet the qualification requirements.

Education

You must be a recent graduate who has completed, within the previous two years, or will have completed by August 31, 2024, an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution such as an accredited technical or vocational school; a 2- or 4-year college or university; a graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or a post-secondary home school curriculum. Note: Certificate program is defined as post-secondary education in a qualifying educational institution equal to at least one academic year of full-time study that's part of an accredited college level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum.
