Duties

Help
  • As a clinic registered nurse, performs professional, clinical nursing duties within the Medical Home Port Naval Hospital Guam, providing specialized nursing care to acute and chronically ill patients and to emergent care patients when indicated.
  • Plans and provides comprehensive nursing care in their Medical Home Port Team utilizing evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and engages patients actively in their health care.
  • Independently assesses actual and potential health problems, considering social, psychological, cultural, and physiological factors.
  • Assesses patient, plans and coordinates indicated examination and treatment by appropriate levels of personnel.
  • Observes and records pertinent vital signs, determines and orders laboratory procedures on patients that may be required by the provider to diagnose and treat the patient, per command and department policies.
  • Proactively assists team’s identification of diagnostic procedures required during schedule scrub.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The position is subject to Public Law 101-647, Section 231, identified as having “regular contact with children” and is required to obtain and maintain a favorable result from a State Criminal History Repository check.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
  • The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain further training (e.g. Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, etc.) U.S. Naval Hospital Guam may provide this training as indicated.
  • Eligible to be credentialed through Medical Staff Services Professional (MSSP).
  • May be required to work weekends and extended work hours based on patient workload or unplanned emergencies. Hours of duty may vary to provide staffing for the full extent of clinic operation.
  • Must obtain a Hepatitis B immunization unless medically contraindicated, presents proof of immunity, or is exempted by documented religious preference.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Nurse (Clinical):

Degree:
A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).

Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017, or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Education and Experience:
Possession diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or above) which includes providing nursing care to a variety of patients, administering medications, and providing patient or staff education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Education: Successful completion of two and a half years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading towards a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
