This position serves as a Supervisor of the Behavioral Health Program which provides integrated behavioral/mental health services to pediatric, adolescent, adult and elderly patients and partners in an out patient setting, coordinating care with medical services at the Fort Yuma Health Center and local tribal entities. Incumbent also provides direct patient care as a licensed independent provider. This position will report to the Clinical Director, Fort Yuma Health Center, Winterhaven, CA.
Supervising, planning, organizing, and developing community oriented ambulatory psychiatric, mental health, social work, and counseling/therapy services.
Set and adjust short-term priorities and prepare schedules for completion of work; assign work to subordinates based on priorities.
Reviews the clinical practices and procedures and directs the activities of the Behavioral Health staff in accordance with the objectives of the Indian Health Service.
Provide mental and psychiatric health maintenance, emergency, and therapeutic services for lifespan patients.
Provides independent diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic nursing and medical services for patients of varying complexity and advanced nature utilizing advanced clinical and analytical skills.

Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
GS-13: In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level.
Examples include: Providing a blend of nursing and psychiatric care services to patients and families, making diagnoses per the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV); knowledge of alcohol/drug rehabilitation programs including 12 step sobriety programs; knowledge of mental health pharmaceuticals to provide medication management and counseling; leadership and supervisory experience directing a nursing team, unit or department.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
