Duties

Help
  • Provide information regarding BLMs mission, wild horse and burro adoptions/map purchases/archeology/history to the public on recreational opportunities available on BLM/other agency lands and related recreational opportunities available in the area.
  • Explain rules related to the use of recreational areas/facilities; inform and persuade contacts to obtain public cooperation in protecting resources from fire, vandalism, pollution and litter, as well as other improper or prohibited activities.
  • Apply knowledge/background on mission and role of BLM to research/respond to inquiries concerning matters as land status and ownership, land sales, timber sales, mining claims, oil and gas leases and permits, rights of way, and/or grazing permits.
  • Research legal documents/prepare written responses/furnishes printed material related to land, mineral, mining claim recordation/recreation inquiries. Interprets legal documents related to land segregation, ownership rights, and land availability.
  • Researches requests for copies of documents, i.e., patents, plats, serial register pages and other related material.
  • Researches record systems including the automated plats/HI system/Legacy Re-Host 2000/Case Recordation/Status Mining Claim Recordation and Collections and Billings System, ensures documents are accurate and complete and research has been completed.

Qualifications

For GS-05:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is further defined as: Accomplishing routine support tasks in a busy office environment, providing routine information to the public and internal customers by phone, email, and in person, preparing written correspondence, and using automations systems, maintaining files and related materials; OR completed four (4) years of education above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the prerequisite, OR I have an equivalent combination of the experience and education described above. NOTE: only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of study i.e., beyond the second year, is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year, is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

For GS-06:
One (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to GS-05 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is further defined as: experience that includes answering internal and external inquiries for complex and detailed information; preparing written correspondence with complex subject matter; providing on-the-job training and user assistance to employees and the general public; researching laws, regulations and organizational policies; and maintaining sensitive information, records and files.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

Physical Demands: The work involves sitting and standing, typically in a public room environment. Moderate lifting of plats and public information documents may be required.

Work Environment: Work is performed in an office building that requires normal safety precautions.

Education

This position falls under the Contact Representative Series, 0962 Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR).

This position allows for education to be substituted for specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level only (see qualification section for education requirements). If using education to qualify -You MUST submit a copy of ALL your college transcripts or a list of ALL college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university. Upon selection, official transcripts must be received prior to appointment. If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
