Help

These are permanent, full-time positions, with one of two schedules - Year-round or Career-Seasonal, depending on the location. Career-Seasonal appointments include the same benefits as year-round appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. If selected for a Career-Seasonal appointment, you will work for approximately 22 pay periods, and will be in a non-pay status for up to 4 pay periods, scheduled between early January to late February, each year.

Major Duties: The incumbent will be responsible for collecting fees in an Entrance Station and campground, preparing daily remittances, and selling, safeguarding, and accounting for accountable property and funds. The incumbent will work closely with visitors, providing basic information and answering questions, solving complaints and resolving conflicts. This position operates electronic cash registers, credit card machines, computers, mail machines, and word processing software.

In addition, the incumbent may perform the following duties:

  • Assist in the orientation, mentoring, and training of new employees, volunteers, and/or interns in fee collection, remittance, and/or deposits.
  • Troubleshoot issues with fee program related technologies and equipment that include hardware, software, and peripheral devices such as hand-held devices, computers, point-of-sale (POS) equipment, registers, tablets, mobile phones, scanning devices, automated fee machines (AFMs), and reservation systems.
  • Research and resolve a variety of non-routine problems with reservations made through automated reservation systems that include but are not limited to Recreation.gov and other, automated or manual management platforms. Process reservation arrivals and departures; create, modify, or cancel reservations; monitor inventory, and reservable versus first-come, first-served availability.
  • Resolve complaints and conflicts and refer issues to a supervisor or higher graded employee when necessary.
  • Transport recreation fee revenue and/or donations collected from one or more fee collection locations such as entrance stations, visitor centers, donation collection stations and campgrounds to the central remit office or other authorized location. Ensure proper security, internal controls, and accountability of funds during transport.
Physical Demands: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, or emergency response duties.

Working Conditions: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.
