Duties

Help

As a Maintenance Mechanic, your duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Safely load, secure and transport heavy mobile equipment over highways, unpaved roads and in undeveloped areas.
  • Install, modify, repair, maintain, or troubleshoot new or existing plumbing piping, valves, pumps, strainers, controls or equipment.
  • Perform work using common hand tools and simple power equipment such as hatchets, ladders, screwdrivers, axes, picks, tampers, hand saws, clippers, buffers, grinders, power saws, weed trimmers, low-pressure sprayers, powered push lawn mowers, chain saws, etc.
  • Follow and carry out assignments in accordance with established oral or written directions, or established policies and practices.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair work to light and heavy equipment, and replace worn out parts.

  • Duties of this position require the employee to obtain and maintain a valid Class A State Commercial Drivers License (CDL) to operate various vehicles and equipment.

  • Driver's License: Selectee required to possess and maintain a valid State driver's license at all times during their tenure.
  • The employee is required to wear the USFWS uniform in accordance with Part 041 of the Fish and Wildlife Service Manual.
  • Probationary Period: Selectees may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

Although no specific amount of experience, education or training is required, applicants must meet a minimum level of ability in relation to the position and the Assessment Questionnaire in order to be rated qualified for consideration. To be qualified candidates must meet any screen out element(s) listed at an "acceptable" level, and must achieve an average rating of at least "acceptable" on all of the elements. Only education, training, or experience acquired before the closing date of this announcement will be considered.
