This position is only open to competitive service internal employees of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) (i.e. Internal Employees/Agency Employees).
Performs a wide range of specialized administrative and clerical assignments requiring a good working knowledge of the telecommunications industry as well as the Communications Act.
Maintains calendars, schedules meetings, conferences, appointments and conference calls for the Commissioner's staff.
Responds to inquiries, both telephonically and in writing. Drafts and types letters and memos in response to inquiries to the Commissioner's office. Material typed is of a general, specialized and highly technical nature such as reports, letters, memoranda, speeches, dissenting and concurring statements on Commission actions and similar information.
The incumbent conducts extensive research and consults subject matter experts in order to respond to inquiries and other related matters.
Ensures correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and required format. Prepares and maintains a variety of managerial reports, and reviews correspondence and other documents for conformance.
Devises procedural changes to improve administrative functions of the office.
Makes travel arrangements; prepares time and attendance; receives and screens calls and visitors; and receives and screens incoming mail.
In order to be considered for this position, applicants must:
-Currently be employed in the Federal Communications Commission in positions serving under career or career conditional appointments.
Applicants must meet eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Prior experience working for senior agency officials preferred.
Specialized Experience: Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 in the Federal service. For this position, specialized experience includes the following: 1) receiving visitors and answering telephone calls from a diverse group of individuals (e.g., congressional staff, representatives of international organizations and/or foreign governments, other high-ranking government and industry officials); 2) responding to inquiries on a wide range of topics from a wide variety of individuals within and outside the organization; 3) maintaining appointment schedules, and arranging conferences, events, and meetings for a high level official (e.g., top agency official, executive, CEO) and their staff; 4) maintaining filing systems and automated tracking systems, and 5) preparing travel documents for domestic and international travel.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
