As a Museum Technician, you will be working on a variety of projects to support the acquisition, cataloging, and protection of artifacts for the National Park Service.

Processes and analyzes archeological artifact assemblages, including recording artifact attributes and organizing data using Excel spreadsheets
Cleans, stabilizes, and preserves artifacts using standard techniques
Applies technical knowledge to the analysis and management of archeological collections, using ArcGIS or ArcPro for visualizing archeological artifact patterning
Processes incoming and outgoing loans of artifacts, ensuring all paperwork is complete and correct and artifacts are packed securely
Prepares summaries of archeological artifact analyses for technical reports and public presentations
Creates figures and tables summarizing archeological artifact data and the results of artifact analyses and interpretation for technical reports and presentations
Provides technical assistance and support before, during, and following archeological fieldwork to ensure archeological collections management standards for the protection and preservation of collections are followed
Enters artifact data into the Interior Collections Management System (ICMS) or its successor

While most work is performed in a museum or storage areas, occasional outdoor work in the field is required.

Qualifications
In order to be qualified for this position, you must possess at least one of the following:
A. One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service, following established procedures to ensure objects of historical or cultural significance are protected from environmental hazards, such as extreme temperature/humidity, mold, damaging lighting conditions, or pests; cataloging or inventorying objects in museum collections; and cleaning or performing simple repairs (e.g. gluing fragments together, removing paint, etc.) to museum artifacts - OR -
B. One year of graduate level education in art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or another closely related field which demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position - OR -
C. A Bachelor's degree in art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or another closely related field which demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position - AND - meet one of the provisions for Superior Academic Achievement: (1) class standing (upper third standing in graduating class); (2) grade-point average (2.95 overall or over the last two years of bachelor's degree -or- 3.45 in your major field or over the last two years in your major); or (3) election to membership in a national scholastic honor society - OR -
D. A combination of specialized experience as described in A and graduate level education as described in B that, when combined, equals 100% of the total requirement
