Major duties for the GS-09:

  • Assists in compliance assistance procedures for identifying and securing accurate and timely reports pursuant to the LMRDA, including the review and analysis of annual financial reports filed by unions and others.
  • Drafts preliminary materials for review by higher-level specialists.
  • Establishes and maintains contacts with designated international and national labor organizations and others to develop cooperative relationships that promote voluntary compliance with the LMRDA and related statutes nationwide.
  • Provides basic guidance to labor organization officers, attorneys, accountants, and other representatives related to the Voluntary Compliance program.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Compliance Assistance Specialist, GS-0301-09, you must meet one of the minimum qualifications, as described below.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-07 in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.

Specialized Experience includes four or more of the following:

  • Experience with the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959 (LMRDA) and related statutes nationwide.
  • Briefing management on results of studies and analyses, providing them with recommendations for improvement.
  • Communication skills, both in writing and orally to outline and relay improvements in procedures as well as write actions plans for implementation.
  • Ability to communicate with internal/external customers using tact and diplomacy.
  • Working with data bases and analyzing large data sets; OR
Education: At least 2 years of progressively higher level Graduate education (above a Bachelor's) leading to an applicable degree; OR
Master's degree or have been awarded a Master's or equivalent higher level Graduate degree; OR
LL.B. or J.D., if related.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Applicable graduate education and experience as defined above. The total percentage must equal at least 100% This must be fully supported by your resume and transcripts.
