WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY

As a Data Scientist, you will use your knowledge and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by:

*Duties are at the Full Performance Level (GS-12)

  • Drives agency innovation and delivers expert business intelligence with respect to data governance, data visualization, data analysis and management capabilities, organizational capacity, and enterprise analytics infrastructure.
  • Develops, analyzes, and recommends new methodologies to fuse data sources derived from requirements and systems.
  • Prepares presentations, writes reports, builds data visualization products, and works to communicate technical results and actionable insights to decision-makers with varying levels of analytic sophistication and will include building and customizing automated report tools and dashboards based upon leadership and staff's needs using the agency designated platform or another internal platform.
  • Participates in, and serves as the representative on, working groups, meetings, conferences, briefings, and seminars related to data analytics, planning, technologies, and system concepts.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Basic Qualifications

  1. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

In addition to the basic requirements, you must meet the following:

Minimum Qualifications

You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service performing at least two (2) of the following:
  1. Utilizing mathematical and/or statistical models for evaluation, identification, collection, and analysis of data used to support assigned projects or program(s).
  2. Assisting with developing, analyzing, and recommending guidelines to fuse data sources.
  3. Preparing presentations, reports and/or data visualization products using automated reporting tools to communicate technical results and actionable insight.

Education

3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
