Duties

Help
  • Answering a wide range of customer inquiries received by telephone, email, written correspondence and facsimile.
  • Using automated or other systems in the assigned office, track cases, monitor workloads, input workload information, and/or correspondence assigned to the office.
  • Performing filing and imaging functions for various records, claims, forms, and miscellaneous material.
  • Labeling and assemble case files in specified order.
  • Managing incoming and outgoing mail.

Qualifications

For the GS 3: Your resume (and/or transcript if necessary) must clearly show that you have the qualifications described below. You can use experience, education, or a combination of the two to qualify.

Experience: You must have at least six months of general experience of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position.

OR

Education: You must have one (1) full year of education above the high school level. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.) Transcripts are required if relying on education, in whole or in part, to qualify.

OR

Combination of experience and education: You must have a combination of A and B as described above. To calculate the combination, divide your total months of experience by 6, then divide your semester hours by 30 and add the two percentages. If the total is 100%, you meet the minimum qualifications through a combination of experience and education.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of experience is considered to be 40 hours of work per week. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate their duties and responsibilities for each position and annotate the number of hours a week spent in each position. This may be reflected on the resume as either hours work or fulltime.
