Duties

Help

As an IT Specialist in the GSA OIG Information Technology Division, you will work as part of a team responsible for the development, delivery and support of the OIG's information technology systems and services. The duties of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Provides customer support for workstations, printers, and Applications Software; providing advice and guidance on a wide range and variety of complex IT issues; interpreting IT policies, standards and guidelines; and conducting analysis and recommending resolution of complex issues affecting IT services.
  • Reviews/analyzes requests for IT equipment and/or services. Develops the Statement of Work for IT products and/or services to be contracted out; reviews and evaluates contractors' proposals, develops performance and/or systems standards, and monitors contractors' performance.
  • Recommends the procurement of IT software/hardware, other equipment and supplies.
  • Loads new releases of local/regional application programs; provides documentation to end-users, and ensures proper hardware and software configurations. Implements and maintains the desktop equipment and software, and support of national applications.
  • Provides network services that support OIG. Analyzes workstation networking connectivity issues and coordinates with the OIG Networking team to obtain network port configuration for new installs and/or resolve connectivity issues.
  • Develops system safeguards and recovery procedures. Ensures security standards are implemented at the operating level and establishes access controls to prevent unauthorized systems access and/or use.
  • Develops customer support policies, procedures, standards. Provides customer training.

  • Serve a one year probationary period, if required.

  • Have your identity and work status eligibility verified if you are not a GSA OIG employee.  We will use the Department of Homeland Security’s e-Verify system for this. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of continued employment.
  • Complete a financial disclosure report to verify that no conflict, or an appearance of conflict, exists between your financial interest and this position

Qualifications

The GS-12 salary range starts at $99,200 per year.  If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.

IT SPECIALIST COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Attention to Detail - This skill is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant ensures that activities, services, or products reflect organizational goals and objectives.
  • Customer Service - This skill is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant confers with users to evaluate the effectiveness of, or identify the need for, computer programs or management systems.
  • Oral Communication - This skill is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant participates or represents the organization or clients at briefings, meetings, or conferences.
  • Problem Solving - This skill is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant evaluates the efficiency or effectiveness of organizational programs, projects, or operations.

GS-12 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
In addition to the competency outlined above, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience analyzing data to identify problematic trends or patterns in customer support requirements; providing organization-wide IT customer support services; and providing technical advice in troubleshooting hardware/software issues.

The GS-13 salary range starts at $117,962 per year.  If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.

Specialized experience is evaluating the effectiveness of installed IT systems and services; identifying customer IT needs and requirements; providing technical support and coordination in the planning and integration of network hardware upgrades and maintenance of new and existing systems; providing technical advice and assistance in one or more of the following areas: customer support, policies, project management, computer security and IT problems.

Bargaining Unit Status: This position is ineligible for bargaining unit coverage.
