This position is located in the Food and Beverage Department for Naval Support Activity Monterey. The primary purpose of this position is to provide skills and experience preparing food for in house facilities and catering events. This is job qualifies for our up to $1750 incentive bonus program.

Performs a variety of tasks such as grilling or frying hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, and using a fryer to cook French fries and other fryer items. Watching while the items are cooking, turning as required; regulating temperature and removing when done. Measures and weighs ingredients according to recipes or as directed in the preparation of salads, desserts, assorted party trays, etc. Prepares toast, salads, salad dressings, and sandwiches. Prepares vegetables and fruits for serving according to instructions and/or recipes. Places cooked food in serving dishes in steam carts in serving area to be picked up by wait staff.
Keeps refrigerators, grills, equipment, cooking utensils and working area clean. Operates dish machine and oversees sanitation. Sweeps, mops and removes trash as needed.
Takes refrigerator temperature readings and enters the reading into the temperature logs.
May assist in inventory taking.
Assures all refrigerator and food storage cupboards are securely locked upon securing the galley.
Works under the supervision of Manager, Assistant Manager, or the Duty Manager, who spot checks the work to be sure that set procedures are being followed and that work is completed within a specified period.
Needs to acquire Alcohol Serve Safe Certificate within 90 days upon hiring.
Must be willing to cross train in other cook positions
Performs other related duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or equivalent
