Summary

The Assistant Secretary for Policy is the primary source of policy, analytical and economic staff support to the Secretary and the Deputy Secretary. The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Policy (OASP) provides support, analysis, and advice to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary, and other senior level officials on policy, programmatic, economic and regulatory issues and other cross-cutting initiatives.

Major Duties:
-Serve as a senior policy advisor to the Assistant Secretary, Deputy Assistant Secretaries, ORPP Director, and other senior level officials on agency policies and programs that foster and enhance the well-being and welfare of job seekers, wage earners, and retirees.
-Evaluate policy effectiveness. Assesses the impact of policy, legislative or other significant proposals on such Departmental and Agency regulatory programs. Analyze issues and work to address issues/concerns in assigned subject areas with emphasis on the costs and benefits of regulatory and programmatic policies.
-Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of the many and varied issues pertaining to
the assigned Agency and Departmental regulatory program areas; develop and maintain current knowledge of the policies of the Administration in these areas; and maintain knowledge of the policies and regulations of other relevant departments and agencies at both the Federal and State government levels.
-Apply a wide range of analytical and evaluative methods and techniques, as well as resource management principles, to evaluate the potential of policy proposals to improve the accomplishment of strategic or other long range program goals, plans or objectives.
-Assure analyses consider changes in mission, delegations of authority, and other broad program matters.

Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-14 in the Federal Service.

Qualifying specialized experience for GS-15 includes:

Experience in coordinating the regulatory development, review, and/or clearance process in compliance with relevant laws, Executive Orders, presidential memoranda, and congressional study directives.
