Positions are planned to be filled in the greater Washington, DC area, but may also be filled in other locations.
If selected, you will be required to sign a Pathways Program Participant Agreement that sets forth the expectations for the internship.

Must maintain good academic standing throughout the entire internship appointment, as defined by the school, generally at least a 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) for undergraduate programs and a 3.0 GPA for advanced degree programs.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet both the Pathways Internship eligibility requirements, as well as the minimum qualifications for the position.
BASIC ELIGIBILITY: Pathways Internship Program candidates must meet Basic Eligibility requirements under the Pathways Program, specifically you must:
Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment on a half- to full-time basis in a qualifying educational institution, pursuing a degree or certificate from an accredited educational institution;
Meet the definition of a student throughout the duration of your appointment;
Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the agency's Participant Agreement;
Continue to meet all of the eligibility criteria throughout the duration of your Intern appointment; and
Provide a copy of up-to-date proof of enrollment at the end of each academic year, unless your supervisor or HR Specialist requests a copy more frequently.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-3: You must have successfully completed one academic year of post-high school study. GS-4: You must have successfully completed two academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.
PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION
Interns may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years) within 120 days of successful completion of the internship program. Students who successfully complete the internship program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent appointment without further competition. To be eligible for conversion, interns must:
Be a United States citizen or national;
Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program while enrolled as a half- or full-time degree- or certificate-seeking student;
Complete a course of academic study, within the preceding 120-day period, at a qualifying educational institution conferring a diploma, certificate, or degree;
Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted (Some positions have specific education requirements that need to be met if conversion is offered.);
Must maintain good academic standing as defined by the institution;
Perform their job successfully as demonstrated by a favorable recommendation by an official of the agency; and
Meet agency-specific requirements, as specified in the Participant Agreement.
Agencies may waive up to 320 of the required 640 hours of work for Interns who demonstrate high potential as evidenced by outstanding academic achievement and exceptional job performance.
Students working in agencies through third-party intern providers may count up to 320 of the hours they work toward the 640 hour requirement.
Time spent under previous Internship Program appointments may count towards required work experience hours.
Promotion Potential: Pathways Interns may advance to higher-graded positions based on completion of educational and/or work experience requirements. Advancement is not guaranteed nor implied. Promotions are dependent upon performance, administrative approval, and subject to requirements of the Pathways Program. The advancement of Interns to higher-graded positions, prior to conversion, is strictly at the agency's discretion. To qualify for promotions, the Interns must have the same level and type of experience and/or education usually required for an initial appointment.
Non-Competitive Conversion Eligibility: Candidates selected from this announcement may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a term or permanent position in the competitive service provided that all terms of the Internship Program are met and there is an available position. However, conversion is not guaranteed. Interns may be non-competitively converted to a term, career-conditional or career appointment within 120 days following successful completion of all of their educational and work experience requirements in accordance with 5 CFR 362.204.
One full academic year of undergraduate; graduate; vocational; trades; technical or high school education is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university or school to represent 1 year of full-time study. All education beyond high school must be accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
