As a Supervisory Hydrologic Technician within the Kansas Water Science Center some of your specific duties will include:
Supervises employees in collection of scientific data
Collects hydrologic data in support of center and bureau missions
Communicates effectively
Trains others in proper methods of data collection.
Physical Demands: Field work regularly requires frequent physical exertion to inspect ongoing operations, including walking over rough, rocky, or uneven terrain; lifting and carrying equipment and supplies; and wading streams in all types of weather.
Work Environment: Field work involves driving, wading in rivers and streams, and walking over rough terrain. Field work is in all weather conditions and involves exposure to heat and cold. The field work also will be in boats on reservoirs, on bridges, or in outdoor laboratories. Work may require the use of special clothing or gear such as masks, coats, boots, goggles, respirators, or life jackets.
Selectee may be subject to serving a one-year probationary period.

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position?

Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. Driver's License/Driving Record: You will be required to operate a government-owned or -leased vehicle in the performance of your official duties. Pre-Employment Medical: Taking and passing a pre-employment medical examination at Federal expense is required due to the physical demands of this job.

Qualifications
For GS-12:
Applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-12 level:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Examples of such experience may include: planning and conducting the computation and collection of data from approximately thirty or more gaging stations; determining stage-discharge relations, computing rating tables and mean daily, monthly and annual discharge rates from these stations. Acting as a party chief and making indirect measurements of flood flows under extremely difficult conditions. Collecting data including that required to compute flood flows by the slope-area method, by measurement of flow over dams, by flow through culverts and by flow over embankments. Obtaining hydrologic data from published and unpublished sources and conducting hydrologic studies relative to the frequency of flood and droughts. Planning and coordinating a ground water survey program for an area that may be either a small area with complex features or a larger area with planning and coordinating problems related to the scope of the ground water survey operations.
